Finding the Spirit of Travel in Everyday Moments

Hello traveler!
I have a confession: I haven’t really traveled this year. Not in the big, adventurous, cross-country sense anyway. For the first time in a long time, I didn’t feel called to pack the bags, board the planes, and embrace the usual chaos that comes with the freedom of exploring.
There’s a season for everything, and this year my soul needed grounding, stability, and a bit of calm. Sometimes, even the most passionate travelers need to pause and reset. But here’s the beautiful thing I’ve discovered: my spirit of travel never left me.
It’s still with me as I move through my days, reminding me to tune into those feelings of awe, gratitude, and wonder—the same gifts that travel gives us. I’ve learned that we don’t have to cross international borders or even leave our hometowns to feel them.
Sometimes, just knowing these moments of joy and wonder are always within reach stops us from going on endless journeys to chase them. We can find them in the small, ordinary moments: a walk in nature, a new experience close to home, or even in the stories we share with others.
This year, I’ve had the gift of traveling through the eyes of loved ones who came to visit us. My parents stayed for three weeks, Craig’s parents for two, and our good friends Colleen and Phil from Scottsdale came for a few treasured days.
Getting to show off our hometown, share laughter, and make new memories reminded me why connection is the most essential part of life’s journey. Whether it’s with family, friends, or strangers in a far-off land, these connections fuel the kind of travel that truly matters—the one that resonates with your soul.
Wherever you are today, I hope you can find that spirit of travel close to home, just as I did this year.
Until next time,
Caroline
P.S. We did take a family trip to Wyoming in May though, which was awesome. And a couple of small getaways to the beach areas of NC. Oh, and Kalyra and I did escape to NYC for three days! LOL.😂😂 How can you spot a traveler?
