A Life-Changing Trip + Why Travel Blogs Matter More Than Ever

Exciting times in our household—our senior, Kalyra, is gearing up for her school spring break trip in March to Paris and London! You know we believe travel is one of the best investments you can make, so we leap at any opportunity to take it. I can’t think of a better life experience for a 17-year-old than to explore these iconic cities with her friends.

Since Kalyra has already been to 19 countries (Paris and London included), I’m not worried about how she’ll handle it. This time, she can slow down, soak it in, and connect a little deeper. I love that she gets to experience travel not just as a whirlwind of firsts but also as an evolution of appreciation over time.

At the recent trip info session, the teacher encouraged the students to start researching tips and things to do now for their free time. He mentioned that there are tons of travel blogs out there to help.

I had to hold myself back from jumping up and shouting,
"Read ours! We have a ton of useful tips on both cities!"

But Kalyra’s sharp warning look told me: Wrong time, wrong place, Mom. 😆

Still, I loved how the teacher acknowledged the value of travel bloggers—the people who pour their experiences into guides, stories, and recommendations to make travel easier and more meaningful for others.

I’ve been doing this since before blogs and social media even existed, and even though my travels aren’t as full-time as they once were, my passion for sharing it hasn’t faded one bit. Y Travel Blog is a treasure trove of insights from over two decades of exploring every life stage—solo, couple, expat, RV life, and family travel.

But Here’s the Problem…

Over the past year, Google waged war on travel blogs, wiping out many of our stories and businesses from search results. Our site and many of my friends' blogs were hit hard. Why? Because Google wants to keep you on their own AI-generated answers instead of sending you to real travelers with real experiences.
